In the beginning

The 2002 Bemsee season saw the emergence of a new and exciting team to club racing. This team is not of the conventional variety; whilst racing is still considered to be a serious business to them, their primary objective is to have FUN!! What this team lacks in hormones and hair; it makes up for with enthusiasm, character, energy, experience and humour.

2003/4

For 2003 they were back for more and lifted the Incontinence Shield trophy.

2004 however saw them relinquish their grip and allow the spotties to win again - as the poor little kids wouldn't stop crying 'cos they lost last year, so we took pity on them!

2005

Unfortuntely, for 2005 there will be no championship. I would like to thank everyone involved, especially Karen Higgens for organizing it and working so hard to keep the points updated. As the the championship got more and more popular it became too big to manage, but certainly succeeded in its goal of bringing some fun back into club motorcycle racing.

It also brought a great many likeminded people, from all walks of life and ages together and some genuine and lasting friendships have been formed.

Well done all of you, and the very best of luck for 2005. May the spirit of the old Farts live on....

Sadly Danny Whalin, a spots team rider and friend to many of us, was killed at Brands Hatch on 8th March 2003. He was pursuing the sport he loved. Danny was always game for a laugh and summed up the whole essence of this lighthearted championship. He will be sorely missed. Please click the links below and read the tributes from his friends. We lost one of our family.

Tribute to Danny Whalin

Read the words of wisdom from our esteemed president Mr. Steve Parrish....

It seems that last year the "elder statesmen" of motorcycle racing, namely the talented Old Farts team, relinquished their firm, but arthritic grip on the Farts and Spots Shield Trophy, after feeling sorry for their youthful "Spottie" adversaries mid season. In order to avoid tantrums from the youngsters it would appear that the Old Farts decided that they should be lent the trophy for 2002.

However, a new and re-invigorated Old Farts team took to the track in 2003. Lean, mean and ready to kick some Spotty arse. I am proud to have been asked to to serve as President to such a bunch of talented heroes and, although my riding days are (mostly) behind me, the trophy was brought back to its rightful place without me needing to throw my leg over again.

For 2004, to avoid tantrums, we allowed the trophy to go back to the little kids, where it is now likely to remain until they are brave enough to challenge us again.

I have no doubt that the Old Farts will overcome lumbago, incontinence, dementia and the Spotties, to show that motorcycle racing is not a sport dominated by young oiks and that respect is due to their elders. After all you are only as old as the woman you feel.

Remember the Old Farts motto: "Senecta perfidiaque iuventutem facultatemque semper superabunt" or "Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill".

Good luck to you all, and may the best (and the oldest) win.

Steve Parrish
